Lip Sync

Here’s the sound I chose to create my lip sync animation. It’s from a TV series called Schitt’s Creek.
This is a rough sketch I made after finding my sound when thinking of ideas for my animation. I thought of the idea of having my characters be on a tropical beach on holiday with piña colada’s as a funny contrast to the sound I chose of my characters arguing.
Here’s another rough sketch of how I imagined the scenes and angles of my animation could go.

Here’s an animatic I made using my storyboard to see what it would look like with my sound.
I decided to make my characters capybaras as since they’re very calm animals I thought it’d be another funny contrast with my sound. Before making my official character design I made a few sketches based on pictures I found of capybara’s online to try and create a cartoon version that I could animate with.
Here’s the sketch I made for my character turnaround sheet of my male capybara.

Here’s the sketch of my character turnaround sheet for my female capybara.
Here’s the digital version of my character turnaround sheet for my female capybara. I gave her a tropical flower on top of her head as the capybara’s are on holiday on a beach and I made her a bit lighter than the male capybara to create more of a contrast between the two characters.

This is the first slide of my x-sheet. I made it through scrubbing my sound and working out what sound is coming from each frame. It was a slightly tedious process but the x-sheets helped me a lot when creating the animation for the lip sync of my characters.
Here’s the second slide of my x-sheet.
This is the final slide of my x-sheet.
This a rough sketch I made of my background to get an idea of the layout I wanted.

Here’s the value sketch I made to try and figure out the tones of my background.
Here’s my final coloured in background. I added in shading and texture to try and make it look more dynamic. I also used warm tones, e.g. through the sunset, to try and create a peaceful and relaxing feel to my background.
Here’s the linework of the zoomed in version of my background. This for the close up shots of the female capybara.
Here’s the coloured in version of my zoomed in background, I tried to make the colouring shading as similar as I could to the main background.
